Empowering Diverse Learners with Student-Paced Lessons

In the era of increasing diversity in classrooms, educators must find innovative ways to meet the needs of all learners. This session will explore how student-paced lesson planning can be used in conjunction with MTSS and UDL frameworks to create inclusive, engaging, and differentiated learning experiences that empower each student to work in ways that align with their unique needs and abilities.

Bonnie Nieves is the author of Be Awesome on Purpose as well as a contributor to EdReports and The American Biology Teacher Journal. She has nearly two decades of experience as a high school science teacher. Bonnie holds a master's degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and Educational Leadership and is a member of many professional organizations including MassCUE, ISTE, and NSTA. Her passion for creating immersive and authentic experiences that fuel curiosity and creating student-centered, culturally responsive learning spaces that promote equity and inclusion has led her to establish Educate On Purpose Coaching. Making Your Token Economy Digital

A token economy is a Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support (PBIS) system used to quickly award points and recognize students for meeting goals. While the idea of giving a student a reward for reaching a goal hasn't changed, the structure of keeping track of these rewards and distributing them has. Pear Deck is a Google add-on that allows us to transform Google Slides presentations to enhance student engagement and lesson content. In this session, we will explore the pre-made social and emotional learning templates available on Pear Deck, and discuss the benefits of check-ins throughout academic lessons. Utilizing Portfolios in ClassDojo

ClassDojo is an educational tool for connecting teachers, students, and parents. In this session, we'll dive into student portfolios — a specific tool for students to showcase their work. Portfolios on ClassDojo are a safe way for students to share their work samples, engage in learning, and stay connected with one another. We will discuss getting started with portfolios, adding work samples, and submitting them for feedback. In addition, we'll demonstrate how teachers can create and assign activities, and even explore pre-made content.
